Seattle Times Visit

I enjoyed our visit to the Seattle Times. One of the things that stood out to me was it seemed to me that they were seriously down playing the potential of mobile applications. Just because a lot people currently go directly to the website for their news information doesn’t mean that it will always be that way in the future or that a better version of their mobile application wouldn’t change that. With more research and a focus on implementing the ease of a mobile application function of a website there could be a future in more application subscriptions as well as more online subscriptions. They were definitely searching for a business model that would support an online based news service but I think they could learn a lot from MSN News about investing more resources to online first media.

    I also noticed that The Seattle Times wasn’t really thinking about mobile applications or interested in an app (because they didn’t want to share profits with Apple). It seemed like the exact opposite of everywhere else we went to on our trip. MSN completely based their website off of their tablet design.
