MSN Making Moves in Media

MSN was far and away the most impressive and useful visit and discussion for me as a broadcast major. They seemed to have a very defined yet flexible method for how they were going to adapt as the world of journalism changes. Their website layout makes sense, as do their content partnerships. They are not simply pulling from the same content pool as other outlets and competitors, but they are clearly very determined in trying to distance and elevate themselves to the top of the news coverage conversation.

Their site has an excellent mix of visually appealing stories (in video form), but also the traditional print variety as well. That mix shows a good blend of both the past norms of journalism as well as some of the present, and their talks of expansion in certain areas shows their vision for the future. All three pieces of that allow them to truly market themselves as unique in a very crowded market for media. They will become even more unique when their deal with NBC expires and they start to act entirely on their own. That is a transformation I am truly looking forward to seeing, specifically because of how they might react.
