Seattle Bike Blog Pedals into Successful Niche

12 Feb

Seattle Bike Blogger Tom Fucoloro is a textbook example of finding an under-covered niche in an area and taking control of it. He took advantage of a very low entry barrier – after all, if you have an internet connection, you can blog about anything. What separates Tom from the many thousands of bloggers spread across the internet is he scooped up an under-covered market segment, ran with it – and hasn’t looked back since. He’s developed his unique brand very well, to the point that the Seattle Times has partnered with him for his specialized and hyper local content.

The Times realized he had control of a market they had yet to venture into, and he is reaping the benefits. Fucoloro has seen his site grow from solely hom posting all of the content, to a budding network of bike and travel enthusiasts. He capitalized on an unrecognized niche, which is arguably the best way to market and develop yourself or your product. A job well done.

What’s really cool about what bloggers like this is that they are able to report stories that never were covered before. We hear a lot of frustration over the reporting that’s been lost with daily newspapers downsizing, but we don’t hear so much about the reporting that we gain. Meeting with Tom Fucoloro was a great reminder about how journalism is growing.
